Less than two months after suffering a heart attack on his birthday, Darryl Strawberry is back on the road doing his ministry work again.

For the last few days, he has been in Omaha speaking at churches and prisons. His doctor gave him clearance to travel again, but there are restrictions.

“I have to take it easy for a while,” Straw told me. “That’s why my wife Tracy is with me to make sure I don’t overdue it.”

Darryl truly enjoys interacting with people, whether it be in churches, schools, hospitals and even convicts on death row.

“I think I can make a difference,” he went on. “I can use my life as an example that there is always hope for a better outcome.”

Straw wants to make sure he is good shape for June 1 when his No. 18 will be retired by the Mets.

“My entire family and I are so looking forward to the ceremony,” he concluded. “I just can’t wait to say thanks to the fans for sticking with me with for both the good and yes, the bad.”
